Trailer doors are attached to the trailer using a strap hinge or a piano hinge. A strap hinge is a single hinge used to connect the door with the door frame. Unlike a piano hinge that is flush and continuous, a strap hinge is externally attached to the door and requires drilling into the outside surface of the door. The number of strap hinges used to attach the door varies depending on size and trailer brand.
